The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons comes from one parcel from Séchet and one in Minot that is farmed organically by Duplessis, though Thomas Pico comes in with his pickers to do the harvest. It's a small cuvée of just 15 hectolitres. It has a reserved, chalky nose that demands encouragement from the glass. It is a bashful nose that needs time to unfurl. The palate is very well balanced with citrus lemon and a hint of apricot on the entry. It gradually builds in the mouth, gaining momentum toward a very poised, quite saline finish that feels long in the mouth. There is something graceful about this Vaillon - a superb contribution to what was a tricky vintage. - WA
